Grade Level Descriptions

    

8th Grade :    Players will be divided into groups based on their ability and will play a schedule appropriate for their skill level. Practices will be held 2-3 days a week and attendance, attitude, and work ethic are very important in regards to playing time. Number of teams/pods will be based on registration totals.
 
7th Grade:  Players will be divided into groups based on their ability and will play a schedule appropriate for their skill level. 6th Grade: More position specific instruction as players will more than likely have one main position and a secondary position. Team(s) will practice 2-3 days per week, play 10-12 games and participate in one or two lacrosse festivals. Winning is a secondary goal and playing time may be adjusted depending on basic skills and strength of opponent  Playtime will be based on practice attendance and some players may be encouraged to participate in additional games designed to improve basic skills against teams of similar competition and skill from other towns. Number of teams/pods will be based on registration totals. Team participates in the Platypus festival.
 
5th Grade: At this level there is still a heavy emphasis on basic skills instruction as well as a shift toward more focused positional instruction (1-2 positions per player) and advanced team concepts.  Practice will be held 2 to 3 days a week and becomes more important. Players who demonstrate good practice participation and good attitudes will see equal playing time regardless of skill level.  5thgrade will play in 10-12 games and winning is not a goal.  Playing other spring sports is still tolerated but practice is much more important at this level due to the advanced team concepts introduced.  Some players may be encouraged to participate in additional games designed to improve basic skills against teams of similar competition and skill from other towns. Number of teams/pods will be based on registration totals. Team pafrticipates in the Platypus festival. 
 
4th Grade:  The 4th grade team will practice 2 days a week and 10-12 games. Players will play multiple positions throughout the year. The team will play approximately 8-10 games and the goal is to provide equal playing time to those who come to practice.  Winning is not a goal.  Players may play other spring sports but missing practice may result in reduced playing time in games.  There is little contact at this level and no “special teams” (man up/down for penalties). Full Equipment is required. Number of teams/pods will be based on registration totals. Team Participates in the annual Platypus festival. 
 
3rd Grade  First level of full season. Practice 2 times a week and 10-12 games starting in March running through early June. Focus is on learining the basiscs of individual skills and team play. The 3rd grade team participates in the annual Platypus festival at the end of the season. 

2rd Grade: Practice 2 times a week and 5-6 festival style games vs other towns.  Focus is on fun learining of basisc individual skills and team play. Full equipement is needed. 

Kindergarten and 1st Grade Clinic: 4 or 5 Sundays in May to introduce players to the game. Fun games and challenges run by HS coaches and players. Great Introduction to the game and Madison coaches. Each player will receive a stick or a pair of gloves.
